# data05

> data05 is the open-source governed data layer: one layer between apps, AI agents and an ordinary SQL database that knows what the data means, who owns it and who may change it, and applies the same access, masking, approval and audit rules on every path in. It is not released yet: data05.dev is a coming-soon page until the open-source repository and binaries are published.

## Key facts

- Product name: data05, always lowercase (domain data05.dev). A member of the 05 family with use05 (https://use05.dev), which governs AI-written code; data05 governs AI agents' access to business data.
- Status: in design. No release, no public repository and no package yet. Planned license: Apache-2.0.
- Five layers, hence the name: define (a JSON Schema specification), decide (a deterministic core), connect (database and identity adapters), enforce (one governed runtime path), expose (library, CLI, HTTP API, MCP server).
- Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite and SQL Server built in from the first release; any other SQL database through one dialect interface. Business objects compile to real typed tables, never key-value tables.
- Identity: bring your own (your app's login, OIDC/JWT for Entra ID, Okta, Google, Keycloak; later SCIM, SAML, LDAP). No passwords, no second user directory.
- AI agents act for a named person with that person's access, through an MCP server generated from the schema. Deletions and critical changes become proposals that wait for a person.
- No model inside: data05 never calls an AI model; plans and permissions are decided by deterministic code.
